Social profiles


SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool) used to configure the settings on our samba server using GUI (Web based) Interface.

Install the “samba-swat” package if it is not installed.

[root@storage ~]# yum install xinetd samba-swat -y

Configure SWAT:

Open the “samba-swat” config file and edit as shown below

[root@storage ~]# vi /etc/xinetd.d/swat 
# default: off # description: SWAT is the Samba Web Admin Tool. Use swat \ 
# to configure your Samba server. To use SWAT, \ 
# connect to port 901 with your favorite web browser. 
service swat 
port = 901 
socket_type = stream 
wait = no 
only_from = 
user = root 
server = /usr/sbin/swat 
log_on_failure += USERID 
disable = no 

Restart samba and xinetd services

[root@storage ~]# /etc/init.d/xinetd restart 
Stopping xinetd: [ OK ] 
Starting xinetd: [ OK ] 
[root@storage ~]# /etc/init.d/smb restart 
Shutting down SMB services: [ OK ] 
Starting SMB services: [ OK ] 
[root@storage ~]# /etc/init.d/nmb restart 
Shutting down NMB services: [ OK ] 
Starting NMB services: [ OK ]

Open the web browser from window or any other client. In the address bar of the browser type “http://Your-server-ip-address:901″ and press enter. It will open up the web based Samba Configuration interface. You can start configure samba server here.
